MPC new choristers: Christopher, Bass

In the second of our profiles of new choristers we’re introducing Christopher – who joined the basses in the summer of 2023. Amazingly he had already been the Met for six years, working in a wide variety of roles, before he realised purely by chance that there was even a choir to join. However, he is now a fully committed member with quite a few public performances under his belt for the MPC.

This choir is not, however, his first musical experience by any means. In fact Christopher has been singing his whole life from school to university. While at Exeter University he auditioned successfully for a 14-piece mixed a cappella group called The Illuminations who went on to compete in the Sky TV show Sing! Ultimate A Capella where they reached the semi-finals (see below).

So Christopher brings a wealth of musical experience to the MPC. But what is it giving to him? “The standard of singing is very good” he says, “and everyone has been extremely welcoming from the first session on”. He also thinks that it is positive for the Met family to come together in a completely different environment and do something that they all love which is totally outside the usual working pattern. For Christopher the icing on the cake is the chance to sing some big choral pieces while having fun with the show tunes also.

For our audiences, the good news is that if you have ever wanted to see the MPC doing a fully choreographed dance routine whilst singing we now have exactly the right man for the job in our ranks…
