The Metropolitan Police Choir is thrilled to pass on the good news to our supporters and followers that our Musical Director PC Richard Fox has been recognised in King Charles' first New Year's Honours List for his services to Music and Policing. Richard is now the proud holder of a British Empire Medal which he will receive at an investiture later in the year.
Richard joined the MPS and started singing with the choir in 2009 when it was still a very successful male-voice only group. He is a professionally-trained musician having studied at graduate level at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and he has striven tirelessly to ensure the very highest standards of singing at the MPC, which is a non-auditioning choir and open to all members of the Met family. Thanks to his efforts the mixed choir now boasts a very wide ranging repertoire of major choral works and popular classics and has a very healthy level of recruitment with new singers continually joining the ranks. He plays a major part in organising all MPC events as well as being completely responsible for the musical direction and musical choices that the choir sings.
Richard Fox first became the Musical Director in 2011 and oversaw the transition of the choir to a mixed voice organisation in 2016. On receiving the news of his award, he said "being able to use my lifetime's hobby to show a different side of the police and to work with the talent the Met has to offer is truly inspiring. The choir enables the Met to reach places and people it otherwise may not, and to raise money for a vast number of charities and good causes. Being nominated for this award is truly remarkable and leading the choir musically is an honour."
The time and whole-hearted dedication that Richard puts into the choir is obvious to all the choristers who are absolutely delighted to congratulate him on this very worthy honour. Well done, Maestro!
